Use Information

– Normal working pressure ranges from 30 – 130 psi.
– DWP hydrant meters have built in backflow prevention devices.
– DWP supplies a 2.5″ hydrant meter with an eddy valve and hydrant wrench.
– The hydrant valve must be fully opened to prevent underground leakage which can cause high pressure hydrant and mainline failure.
– The hydrant and eddy valve must be turned slowly to prevent water hammer effects on the mainline that can cause catastrophic mainline failure.
– The eddy valve should be used to operate the meter during operations to prevent wear on the hydrant.
– Hydrants should be turned off during non-operating hours to prevent sub-surface leakage.

Agreed to Usage Terms

– Properly operate hydrant and meter consistent with information provided in the Use Information Section of this request and general industry practices.
– The deposit will be held for unanticipated cost or damages. Upon meter return, any unpaid costs including damages, service and water usage charges or other charges owed or expected to be owed to DWP will be deducted and the balance returned.
– Damages and water service and usage charges will be billed monthly as applicable. Monthly bill will be remitted to the requester’s email address on this request.
– All connected equipment will be rated for 150 psi or more.
– Equipment used must be water-tight.
– Meter operators will not hinder emergency response access to the hydrant and will yield to all emergency responder needs.
– The requester assumes all risks and liability associated with the use of DWP’s fire hydrant(s) and meter.
– Water pulled from a hydrant without the use of a meter will be charged based on estimated use determined by the max flow of the unauthorized connection.
– The requester takes full responsibility for securing the use of the meter and connected hydrants. Unauthorized use will be the responsibility of the requester and all terms apply.
– Any and all costs resulting from failure to adhere to the terms of this request will be charged to the requester and may result in suspension of the requester’s ability to further utilized DWP’s hydrants at the discretion of DWP’s Water Superintendent.
– By submitting this request, the requester agrees to these terms. The requester further agrees to allow only trained personnel aware of these terms to operate the hydrant and meter.
